.....DON'T FORGET THIS SUNDAY.....
** La Perle Community Members
We will be holding our annual Town Hall Meeting on April 23rd, 7pm at the Hall.
We will be discussing (and voting on) the use of some very significant funds.
Upon completion of the 2016/17 skating season, the financials of the rinks were tabulated and reviewed. The net cost of operating the rinks this past year was $8,748. The rinks were open for 165 hours which equates to $53.02 per hour. A total of 318 skaters used the rinks; however, only 32 different skaters were recorded as many were repeat skaters. This averaged about 2 skaters per hour. Ultimately, the cost was approximately $25 per skater per hour.
The Board of Directors has discussed, in length, these statistics, recognizing the significant cost and low usage rate of the rinks. We have compared the operation of the rinks to other programs, such as the soccer program, and Green Shack program and have found that these other programs have much greater participation rates compared to the rinks. The soccer and Green Shack program costs have escalated over the past few years and the community has reached a point where we must support the programming that is most valuable to the community.
There will be a motion presented at the April 23rd Town Hall meeting to suspend operations of the rinks indefinitely and redirect the funds to other programming such as the soccer program and the Green Shack program. Members of the community will have an opportunity to speak for and against this motion. Once all members have been heard, the community membership will vote on this motion. Please make it a priority to attend the 2017 Town Hall meeting and make your voice count!
